  1. La Catedral: When the royal court decided to leave Valladolid, there departure unfortunately left behind the cathedral in its present condition. And although still impressive with it’s façade an obvious work of its’ architect Juan de Herrera it never quite became the monumental building he had originally designed in 1585. In its interior you can see a painting of the “Transfiguration” by Lucas Jordan along with it’s beautiful choir balcony and altar. Some other pieces from the old gallery are held at the “Museo Diocesano”.

  2. Santa María de la Antigua: Declared Historical Artistic Monument the 11th may 1806 it’s another one of the cities many landmarks. The 4 roman towers of the castle are undoubtedly the most beautiful parts of the building since the remainder of the structure was built in gothic style in the 14th century.

  3. Colegio de San Gregorio - Museo Nacional de Escultura: This museum is one of the prime examples of architecture from the Catholic kings, the museum and it’s dome were built by Juan Guas and it’s home to the best collection of sculptures in the world. There are various galleries with works from artists such as Alonso Berruguete, Juan de Juni or Gregorio Fernandez that truly deserve a visit.

  4. Museo Oriental: Founded in 1908, with it’s more recent remodel finishing in 1985 here you’ll find one the largest collections of Oriental Arte in Europe. Some of the finest Philippine and Chinese pieces on display.

    • Opening times: Monday to Saturday from 1000 till 1400 and 1600 till 1900.Sundays and public holidays from 1000 till 1400.
    • Admission fee: General 3€,discount 2.50€ children under 10 go free.

  1. Casa de Cervantes: On the calle del Rastro you’ll find the a house which once belonged to Miguel De Cervantes in 1605 and where he wrote sample novels and part of the story of Quijote. The house with shares the block with 5 others is still home to some of the writers personal belongings.

  1. Leyenda del Pisuerga: An alternative means to se the city of Valladolid is by taking a trip on the “Leyenda del Pisuerga”, a twelve kilometre journey, under 7 bridges, from Las Moreras to Arroyo-La Flecha.

Enoturismo: The office of Enoturismo, offers the chance to take two delightful tours to get to know the region, one of which takes you through the vineyards to understand their distinct denominations and the other through the historic city where you can sample he pleasures of both wine and the famous tapas.

Museo de la Ciencia: A visit with children to the enchanting hall called “El rio de la ciencia” will surely get there appraisal, that’s if they don’t appreciate the fact that this museum built by famous architects Rafael Moneo and Enrique de Teresa has become one of the most modern and important planetariums in the world.

Since it’s becoming in the medieval times, Valladolid has become known as “the place where the waters merge”. So old, in fact, that it’s old town is witness to the passing of different cultures even civilisations. Today, however, it’s an economic, social and cultural hotpot like you’d come to expect from any other main European cosmopolitan city. To the “vallisoletanos” Plaza Espana is the main attraction but to the visitor there is so much more to see with its’ collection of historically important monuments and buildings. One of which is the “Casa Colon” where, in 1506, witnessed the passing of discoverer “Colombus”.

You can’t miss the “Puente Colgando” or “hanging bridge” which joins the banks of the river. Another must see for the visitor is the Casa Campo an impressive and most beautiful park right in the centre of the city. Watch out for the pheasants and peacocks whilst marvelling at its splendour. The surrounding province is fortunate enough to blessed with four of Spain’s famous grape varieties, (Toro, Cigales, Rueda and Ribera del Duero) for any wine lover this is close to heaven, but if that wasn’t enough some of the typical culinary offerings of the region contemplate to perfection with dishes such as roast lamb, rabbit pie and the excellent pastries.
